SOFIA, Oct. 14 -- Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev on Monday welcomed growing Chinese investments in his country as "a very positive trend."

Plevneliev made the remarks in an interview with Xinhua after meeting with senior executives of leading international news agencies as part of the Ninth World Meeting of Bulgarian Media.

"We see lots of Chinese investments in Bulgaria, and we welcome and support each of them," Plevneliev said.

Citing an auto assembly plant opened last year by Chinese carmaker Great Wall Motors near the town of Lovech in northern Bulgaria as an example, the president said car manufacturing had a very strong tradition in Bulgaria and that it would have a bright future.

Bulgaria has also seen growing Chinese investment in the agriculture and energy sector, which is "a very positive trend," Plevneliev added.

He said he hoped to visit China in 2014 when the two countries will celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The Ninth World Meeting of Bulgarian Media brought together some 370 representatives from 35 countries under the slogan "The Media and the National Causes."
