Chinese official makes three-point proposal to boost cooperation in Asia

08:41, October 18, 2012

KUWAIT CITY, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sun Jiazheng, special representative of Chinese President Hu Jintao, has made a three-point proposal to boost cooperation in Asia and its influence in the world.

Sun, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), is attending the first Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) summit Tuesday and Wednesday.

Asia had generally maintained peace and stability amid an increasingly complicated and volatile international situation, Sun said in his keynote speech at the summit.

The Asian region had become a main driver of world economic growth and a decisive force on the world stage, Sun said.

All the Asian countries should engage in active discussions and work out pan-Asia cooperation objectives and make clear the direction of Asia's future development, he said.

To this end, Sun proposed that, first, Asian countries should conduct dialogue and cultural exchanges between different religions and civilizations through diversified channels and in various forms.

Second, Sun suggested improving the efficiency of cooperation and speeding up Asia's development.

The Asian countries should reorganize their resources and focus their efforts on food security, energy security, finance, education, and anti-poverty campaigns, which were pervasive concerns in developing countries.

In his third point, Sun urged Asian countries to build consensus and enhance its influence in the world on such important issues as global economic governance, reform of the international financial system, climate change, the Millennium Development Goals, and food and energy security.

Sun also outlined China's current economic situation and its policy of peaceful development.

He said the more China developed, the closer its ties with Asia and the world would become, and the more it needed a stable and peaceful regional and international environment.
