Chinese Vice Premier to attend funeral of Ethiopian PM

BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Hui Liangyu will attend the funeral of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi in Addis Ababa on Sept. 2, Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei announced Thursday.

Hui will make the trip as the representative of the Chinese government, Hong said.

Meles, 57, died of a "sudden infection" while recovering at a hospital abroad on Aug. 20.

On Aug. 22, President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao sent their own condolences to Ethiopia regarding Meles' death. Most viewed commentaries
