Chinese VP bows to pick up foreign guest’s dropped glasses

On August 21 the 28th General Assembly of International Astronomical Union (IAU) was inaugurated in Beijing. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. When Xi finished his speech, the president of the International Astronomical Union Robert Williams came up to shake hands with Xi but dropped his classes by accident. Xi bowed to pick up the dropped glasses and returned them to Robert Williams. Then the two men shook hands again.

The 28th General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union is being held in Beijing from Monday to Aug 31. This is the first time China has hosted the triennial event since joining the organization in 1935 which demonstrates the country’s scientific research and innovation capabilities and influence continue to grow.

This year's conference has attracted than 2,000 scientists from 88 countries or regions.
