China, Africa expect cooperation to reach new level

(People's Daily Online)

After the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation was started in 2000 and after the Beijing Summit was held in 2006, China-Africa relations have made significant progresses in various areas.

The total trade amount between China and Africa had increased from a little more than 10 billion U.S. dollars in 2000 to about 166 billion U.S. dollars of 2011. The number of the Chinese enterprises in Africa has exceeded 2,000 and they are distributed in 50 African countries. Meanwhile, Africa's investment in China has also increased greatly.

The Premier of Ethiopia Meles Zenawi once said that the amazing rise of China and the effort made by China for developing the China-Africa mutual-benefit partnership are reasons for the revival of Africa.

China's policies towards Africa are welcomed by African countries, and that is because China-Africa cooperation has promoted social and economic developments of African countries and brought practical benefits to African people.

The increasingly-close relationship between China and Africa has also evoked such comments as “neo-colonialism” and “China trying to obtain resources of Africa.” However, the China-Africa relationship is based on equality, mutual trust and win-win cooperation. Actually, China's aids to Africa do not have any conditions. China always respect sovereigns of African countries, and China's investments in Africa follow international conventions and market rules and are comprehensive and multiplex international competitions and cooperative actions. Africa is experiencing a transformation from shaking off the poverty to realizing the economic development and therefore needs partners like China.

Both China and Africa have the wish and desire to further promote their economic and trade cooperation. The Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will be held soon, will start a new chapter for China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. With joint efforts from both sides, we are sure that China-Africa cooperation will reach a new high level and benefit people of China and Africa better.
