BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang called for increased trade and investment cooperation between China and the United States, expressing his hope that more U.S. companies could become further involved in China-U.S. investment projects.

"Cooperation on trade and investment plays an important part in promoting the ties between China and the United States," Li said, noting the numerous opportunities of cooperation available for the two nations to foster their economies as well as improving infrastructure construction.

Li uttered a call for the two governments to handle trade disputes well and create better conditions and eliminate barriers for the two business communities to expand their investments.

China and the United States are the two biggest world economies and their interaction is one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world, Li said, adding that the China-U.S. cooperative partnership will help the two nations to address global challenges such as the international financial crisis and promote the recovery of the world economy.

The Chinese vice premier made such remarks in a meeting with a delegation formed by representatives from the U.S. business community including Thomas J. Donohue, chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez and former U.S. trade representative Charlene Barshefsky.

The delegation members agreed to expand communication with the Chinese side through various channels and work actively to boost trade and investment cooperation between the two nations.
