PHNOM PENH, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi conferred here Tuesday on consolidating the traditional friendly relations between their countries.

Hun Sen said the relationship between Cambodia and China has been developing smoothly and Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to Cambodia earlier this year has strongly pushed forward the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Hun Sen thanked the Chinese government and people for their long-term support and aid to the economic and social development of Cambodia.

Yang, who was in Cambodia to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) annual ministerial meeting and regional forum, spoke highly of the good relationship between Cambodia and China in all fields.

He thanked Cambodia for its staunch support for China on issues related to China's core interests.

Yang appreciated the efforts Cambodia has made to host the ASEAN meetings. He said safeguarding peace and promoting development are the top concerns of all countries in the region.

China, he said, hopes that the ASEAN meetings will send out positive signals so as to boost mutual trust and promote cooperation, increase all sides' capabilities to cope with challenges, promote the domestically driven growth in Asia, and stabilize the momentum of Asia's development.

Yang also met with Cambodian Foreign Minister Hor Namhong.

Yang arrived here Monday to attend the 13th ASEAN Plus Three Foreign Ministers' Meeting, ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting, the 2nd East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' Meeting and the 19th ASEAN Regional Forum from July 10-13.
