BEIJING, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Vice President Xi Jinping met on Tuesday with a delegation from Japan's Kansai economic circles.

Speaking highly of the contribution made by the business circles for the development of China-Japan trade relations, Xi called on the Japanese businessmen to continue to participate in China's economic development.

Xi reviewed the history of normalization of China-Japan relations, and hailed the "great sense of historical responsibility and courage" of the older generations of Chinese and Japanese statesmen to make the strategic decision 40 years ago.

The two countries, facing the 40th anniversary of normalization of ties this year, should continue to create a sound environment for healthy and stable development of bilateral ties with joint efforts, Xi said.

He also called on businessmen of the two countries to continue to contribute to the mutual understanding of the two peoples and comprehensive development of the China-Japan strategic relationship of reciprocity.

Chairman of the Kansai Economic Federation Shosuke Mori and Chairman of the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry Shigetaka Sato, also chief delegates, said the economic groups in Kansai will continue to cooperate with Chinese business circles to promote the development of Japan-China economic relations.

The delegation is in Beijing at the invitation of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
