Peach Aviation launches flight between Osaka and Hong Kong

OSAKA, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Japanese low-cost carrier Peach Aviation Limited launched Sunday its international flight service between Osaka and Hong Kong, expecting to further expand its international network to Asian cities.

The new flight of the budget airline company, operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, took off Sunday evening from Kansai International Airport in Osaka for Hong Kong International Airport, carrying about 150 passengers plus six crew members, local press reported.

Prices for one-way tickets on the Kansai-Hong Kong route range from 8,880 yen (about 111 U.S. dollars) to 33,880 yen (about 424 dollars), compared with the ticket price from about 40,000 yen ( about 500 dollars) offered by major airlines such as Cathay Pacific, JAL or ANA.

Following the international air link between Kansai and Incheon International Airport in South Korea, which started in May, the new service to Hong Kong is expected to increase its network in Asian cities. The Kansai-based carrier also plans to start new jet service to Taipei in September.

Competition among airline companies in Japan is expected to further heat up as another new budget airline Jetstar Japan, a joint venture of JAL, Qantas and Mitsubishi Corp., will also launch domestic air links to/from Narita International Airport, near Tokyo on July 3.
