Chinese, Guyanese presidents exchange greetings on 40th anniversary of ties

BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages Wednesday with his Guyanese counterpart Donald Ramotar on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

In his message, Hu said remarkable progress has been made in the development of bilateral ties in the past 40 years, marked by frequent high-level exchanges, growing mutual political trust, fruitful cooperation in various areas and close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to its ties with Guyana, and stands ready to further advance the traditional friendship between the two nations and expand mutually beneficial cooperation so as to promote the all-round development of their friendly cooperative relations, Hu said.

Ramotar in his message noted the steady and in-depth growth in bilateral relations over the past 40 years.

The two countries have conducted fruitful exchanges and cooperation in such areas as politics, diplomacy, economy and culture, and they also share a wide range of common interests in international affairs, Ramotar said.

The Guyanese government and people cherish its traditional friendship with China and look forward to further and stable development of bilateral ties, he said.
