The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Thursday concluded its Beijing summit, which is critical to the future development of the organization.

At the summit, the presidents of the SCO member states worked out a strategic plan for the organization’s development in the next decade, and signed a series of documents with great guiding significance to the organization’s development.

The documents include the Declaration on Building a Region with Lasting Peace and Common Prosperity, the Strategic Plan for the Medium-Term Development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Regulations on Political and Diplomatic Measures and Mechanism of Response to Events Jeopardizing Regional Peace, Security, and Stability, and the Program of Cooperation in the Field of Combating Terrorism, Separatism, and Extremism for 2013-2015, covering almost all major issues of concern to the member states.

These documents are of long-term strategic importance to building a harmonious region with lasting peace and common prosperity, further demonstrating the “Shanghai Spirit.”

The SCO has played a great role in boosting economic and cultural cooperation among its member states. The young international organization has received extensive attention from the international community for its remarkable achievements in maintaining regional stability and enhancing cooperation among the member states, and is becoming increasingly attractive to neighboring regions and countries. It is worth noting that China has won great acclaim from other member states for greatly promoting economic cooperation within the SCO framework.
