Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to China, made an online communication with Chinese netizens at the Qiangguo Forum, People’s Daily Online, on the afternoon of April 13, 2012.
People's Daily Online: This year is the 40 anniversary of U.S. President Nixon’s first visit to China as well as the 40 anniversary of the release of Sino-US Joint Communiqué. On February this year, Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping paid an official visit to the United States. Do you have any expectations and suggestions on the development of the China-U.S. relationships?
Gary Locke: The U.S.–China relationship has grown dramatically and substantially over the last four years. Our economies now depend on each other for prosperity. We know the more Chinese enter the middle class, the more items they will want, and it is great demand for the goods made in the America. That means jobs for the people of America.
The United States and China have the ability to help each other, but more importantly to help solve some of big problems facing the entire world. There is virtually no challenge facing the world today that cannot be solved if both China and the United States join together. The world is looking for the leadership from both China and the United States.
