Chinese ancestry gave him a sensitive understanding of the culture and history of China and he was proud of incredible accomplishments China archived in last several decades, said Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to China, during an online communication with Chinese netizens at the Qiangguo Forum, People’s Daily Online, on the afternoon of April 13, 2012.
People’s Daily Online: Does your Chinese ancestry bring you advantage in the work?
Gary Locke: I think it gives me a great sensitive understanding of the culture, the history, the struggles and challenges that China faces. Because I’ve been to China starting in the late 1980s and I’ve seen the incredible transformation of China. I’m very proud of what China has been able to accomplish in the last several decades. And I’m also very very proud of what America has contributed, not just in terms of scientific advances, and breakthroughs in medicine, and in engineering but also in terms of its values.
