Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to China, made an online communication with Chinese netizens at the Qiangguo Forum, People's Daily Online, on the afternoon of April 13, 2012.
People's Daily Online: The United States has reaffirmed and committed to abide by the principles of three Sino–US joint communiqués and respect mutual core interests. However, the United States was found hurting China's core interests, such as selling arms to Taiwan and meeting the Dalai Lama. What’s your opinion?
Gary Locke: We very much believe in the One-China Policy. And that has been reaffirmed ever since President Nixon came to China and the diplomatic relations were established by President Carter over 30 years ago. All the successive presidents have committed themselves and followed the principles of the joint communiqués. We very much believed that we stand by those particular documents and those agreements.
