Unfortunate acts, including the death of Chinese American soldier Danny Chen in Afghanistan, does not mean that America has not enabled people of color, Asian Americans Chinese Americans to succeed, said Gary Locke, U.S. Ambassador to China, during an online communication with Chinese netizens at the Qiangguo Forum, People’s Daily Online, on the afternoon of April 13, 2012.

The U.S. military is color blind. And the percentage of people of different ethnic groups in the military basically reflects the general population. Chinese Americans and Asian Americans actually are in the high ranks of U.S military, Locke said.

Chinese and other Asian Americans have actually attained the highest positions in all facets of U.S. society. Chinese are leaders in academia, heading up major colleges and universities, are CEOs or chairmen of great U.S. transnational corporations. They have achieved great success in arts, entertainment, sports, politics, Locke said.
