Chinese senior legislator pledges further ties between China, Kenya

NAIROBI, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A Senior Chinese legislator on Monday met speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya and agreed to further bilateral relations in various fields.

Hua Jianmin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China, conveyed greetings and wishes from Wu Bangguo, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, to Kenneth Marende, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya.

Hua said since the two countries established diplomatic relations, there have been frequent high-level exchanges, rapid growth of economic cooperation and cooperation in diverse fields are also gaining all-round progress.

Parliamentary exchanges form an important part of bilateral relations, Hua said, adding the two parliaments have also made considerable progress exchanging and cooperating at various levels in all aspects.

Hua pledged that China is willing to make joint efforts with Kenyan counterpart to further their ties.

Marende extended warm welcome to the NPC delegation led by Hua and asked him to convey his greetings to Wu. He spoke highly of the friendly ties between the two countries, especially their close cooperation in politics, economy and trade.

Marende said Kenya would stick to one-China policy and is willing to develop friendly exchanges of the two legislative bodies and to push the bilateral all-aspects cooperation to a higher level.

The delegation of NPC, China's top legislative body, invited by National Assembly of Kenya, arrived in Nairobi on March 31 for a friendly visit.
