PORT OF SPAIN, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Senior Chinese lawmaker Wang Zhaoguo met here Monday with Trinidad and Tobago's Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and parliamentary leaders on bilateral relations.

During the talks with Bissessar, Wang, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said that relations between China and Trinidad and Tobago have steadily progressed in recent years.

The two nations have conducted frequent high-level exchanges and deepened political trust, said Wang, adding that Trinidad and Tobago has become one of the most important economic and trade partners of China.

Wang said that China attaches great importance to the ties with the Caribbean countries and is willing to work together with them to implement the outcomes of the third China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, deepen cooperation in the areas of economy and trade, investment, finance, infrastructure construction and tourism, strengthen coordination in international affairs and cope with challenges together.

Noting that China has maintained rapid economic growth despite the impact of the international financial crisis, Bissessar said that the government of Trinidad and Tobago would like to deepen cooperation with China in the fields of economy and trade, information exchanges, agriculture, health and education.
