BRAZZAVILLE, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Three Chinese workers were killed on Sunday and dozens of others injured, some in serious condition, in explosions in Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo, according to Chinese officials.

Duan Jinzhu, political counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, has confirmed the deaths, saying more information was being sought on the casualties.

There were about 140 Chinese workers of the Beijing Construction Engineering Group at the construction site when the blasts went off, the Chinese company said.

Huang Shanyan, head of the company, said they have been unable to contact Gao Jinhui, another responsible person of the group who was as the construction site. The company has evacuated 50 to 60 personnel from the site.

The dormitory building of China's Huawei company was badly damaged, without casualties reported, Chinese officials said.

The injured Chinese workers have been sent to hospital for medical treatment, the company added.

Xinhua's correspondent saw more than 10 injured persons were receiving treatment at the city's Universal Hospital Center. An Chinese commercial official said there were more than 10 others sustaining serious injuries taken to a military hospital.
