Senior Chinese leader will meet Japanese personages for friendship

BEIJING, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin will meet presidents of seven Japanese organizations for bilateral friendship, Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said at a press conference on Thursday.

Liu said China warmly welcomes and attaches great importance to the joint visit by the seven organizations.

The seven organizations are the Japan-China Friendship Association, the Association for the Promotion of International Trade, the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association, the Japanese Dietmen's League for Japan-China Friendship, the Japan-China Association on Economy and Trade, the Japan-China Society, and the Japan-China Friendship Center.

These organizations are important bridges for Sino-Japanese friendly exchanges and cooperation, and the presidents have made important contributions for the improvement and development of bilateral relations, Liu said.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will meet the presidents, Liu said.

State Councillor Liu Yandong on Thursday attended the opening ceremony for the year of exchange and friendship between Chinese and Japanese nationals and met a Japanese delegation headed by Naoshima Masayuki, the special envoy of Japan's prime minister .

Liu said the year is an important action for the two sides to promote friendship between the two peoples and deepen strategic and mutually beneficial bilateral relations.

The two sides will organize a variety of activities in a wide range of areas during the year, according to Liu.
