JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) - China and Indonesia pledged to fortify their bilateral relations Tuesday by enhancing parliamentary exchanges and mutual support in international affairs.

The pledge was made when senior Chinese legislator Uyunqimg met separately with Pramono Anung Wibowo, deputy speaker of the Indonesian parliament and Agung Laksono, Indonesia's coordinating minister for people's welfare.

Uyunqimg, vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress(NPC), hailed the sound momentum of bilateral relations since establishing strategic partnership in 2005, evidenced by enhanced political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, culture and defense as well as good coordination in international affairs.

"China attaches importance to Indonesia's role in ASEAN and supports it to play a bigger role in international affairs. We are willing to work more closely with Indonesia to protect the interests of developing countries," she said.

Noting that NPC has maintained sound cooperation with the Indonesian parliament, she said both sides should increase exchanges between the parliamentary leaders and specific committees so as to boost bilateral strategic partnership.

Anung and Laksono said Indonesia valued Indonesia's strategic relationship with China and hoped to expand their cooperation in various fields and deepen the understanding between the two governments, parliaments and peoples.

Uyunqimg arrived here on Sunday for a friendly visit after attending the annual meeting of Asia-Pacific Parliament Forum.
