BEIJING, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vice President Xi Jinping on Friday pledged to further bilateral political ties and cooperation in various fields with Chile.

Xi, during a meeting with Patricio Melero Abaroa, president of Chile's Chamber of Deputies, hailed current relations between China and Chile, saying the two states have become "good friends with mutual trust and sincere partners."

"China attaches importance to its relations with Chile from a strategic perspective, and will work with Chile to push forward bilateral ties," he told Melero, who is heading a delegation of the Chamber of Deputies for a visit to China.

Xi called on the two countries to fully play the role of economic and trade committees, boost cooperation in mining, agriculture, quality inspection, fishery and new energy.

He also suggested the two sides enhance exchanges between political parties and in such fields as science and technology, and speed up contact at a grass-roots and local level.

On Sino-Latin American relations, Xi spoke highly of the latter's role in international and regional affairs.

He pledged to expand dialogue, exchange and cooperation with Latin American countries and regional organizations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States.

Melero, in his turn, said Chile and China have become friends afar, and his country will bolster cooperation with China, including in the legislative aspect.
