China hopes for joint efforts to build open, transparent, equal security framework in Asia-Pacific region

BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- China will work with all relevant sides to build an open, transparent and equal security framework in the Asia-Pacific region, Assistant Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin said Sunday.

Following many years of efforts, a complex, multi-level security structure has been established in the Asia-Pacific region, Liu said in a written interview with Xinhua.

He named some of the mechanisms, including the Six-Party Talks, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the ASEAN Regional Forums (ARF) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers Plus Meeting (ADMM-Plus).

"In the short-term, it is hardly possible to forge a pan-Asia-Pacific region security mechanism which tops all these mechanisms," Liu said.

All the existing mechanisms should fully exploit their advantages, be complementary and promote each other, and play a constructive role, he said.

The regional security framework should be based on the new concepts of security, including mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and coordination, Liu said.

He urged all relevant countries to first solve the problem of distrust, show mutual respect and conduct coordination on an equal basis.

He also called on them to understand and take care of each other's interests and concerns, seek mutually beneficial cooperation and strive for common development with harmony and a step-by-step settlement of differences.

Absolutely the right approach for China to take. The US seeks to play countries off against each other in order to sell military weapons because this is where the "world"s policeman" makes it money. The US also uses groups within a country to cause governments to be overthrown in order to install US friendly puppets. China does not overthrown governments.
