BANGKOK, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met with Thai Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda here on Friday.

Speaking highly of Prem's unswerving dedication to enhancing the traditional friendship between China and Thailand, Xi said that China and Thailand are one family and the peoples of the two countries are like brothers and sisters.

Since the two countries established diplomatic ties 36 years ago, their mutual political trust has been deepening constantly and their pragmatic cooperation has advanced swiftly in various fields, Xi said.

The past decades have witnessed China and Thailand work shoulder to shoulder to address financial storms and natural disasters, noted Xi, adding that the time-tested relationship serves as a good example demonstrating China's efforts to develop friendly and good-neighborly relations with its neighboring countries.

The current good relationship between China and Thailand stems from the fact that both countries adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, respect each other, treat each other as equals, move ahead hand in hand and pursue mutual benefit and win-win results, Xi said.

It also stems from the facts that the leaders of both countries attach great importance to the bilateral ties and that both the Chinese and Thai peoples cherish the notion that "China and Thailand are one family," Xi said.

China is willing to continuously work together with Thailand to push forward the traditional friendship between China and Thailand and bring more benefits to the peoples of the two countries, Xi said.

Prem, for his part, welcomed Xi's visit to Thailand, saying he is confident that the visit will write a new chapter in the Thailand-China friendship.

Thailand suffered grave floods not long ago and China swiftly offered enormous assistance, Prem said, noting that this fully demonstrates the profound friendship between Thailand and China, which will play an irreplaceable role in the long-term development of the relations between the two countries.

Thailand will always be China's friend, Prem said, adding that Thailand hopes to develop its economy and the Thailand-China relations in a faster and better way by strengthening friendly exchanges and cooperation with China.
