HANOI, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese and Vietnamese leaders on Thursday called on the youths to play an active part in consolidating friendship and promoting cooperation between the two countries.

Leaders of the two countries and the two peoples, especially the youths, should bear the historical responsibility to carry forward the bilateral friendship for generations, which serves the fundamental interests of the two countries and also is the common wish of the two peoples, visiting Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said.

Xi made the remarks when he and Le Hong Anh, a Politburo member and permanent member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, met representatives of the 12th China-Vietnam Youth Friendship Meeting.

China and Vietnam should use a political wisdom that is accountable to history, to the people and to the goal of building a harmonious world and Asia, to consolidate the good neighborly and friendly relations, deepen pragmatic cooperation and promote the sound and stable development of their comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, Xi said.

Xi, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made three proposals for the youths of the two countries.

Firstly, the youths should inherit the traditional friendship between the two countries and inject vitality into the sound and stable development of the China-Vietnam friendship, Xi said.
