BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday held talks with his Polish counterpart Bronislaw Komorowski, and both agreed to advance bilateral relations to a level of strategic partnership.

President Hu hailed the development of Sino-Polish relations since the two states established diplomatic ties in 1949, and especially after their friendly cooperative partnership was forged in 2004.

The two sides increased high-level exchanges, expanded trade and economic cooperation, and coordinated effectively within international organizations like the United Nations, Hu told Komorowski, the first Polish president to visit China in 14 years.

"China appreciates Poland's adherence to the one-China policy and the efforts it has made in promoting China-European Union relations," Hu said.

Hu called on the two sides to take the establishment of a strategic partnership as a new starting point and implement all the tasks listed in the China-Poland joint statement issued Tuesday.

He also asked the two sides to constantly enhance political mutual trust, tighten political ties and offer reciprocal support on issues concerning each other's core interests.

President Hu suggested both countries strengthen coordination and cooperation on international and regional affairs, join hands to cope with global challenges and push for a more fair and reasonable international order of politics and economics.
