Chinese state councilor holds talks with Myanmar vice president

NAY PYI TAW, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- State Councilor Dai Bingguo on Monday held talks on bilateral relations with Myanmar's Vice President U Tin Aung Myint Oo.

Dai said for the 60-plus years since the establishment of their diplomatic relations, China and Myanmar have always dealt sincerely with their mutually beneficial cooperation, making rich achievements in various sectors.

Noting that the two countries established comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership this year, he said broad development prospects have emerged for bilateral relations.

He stressed the need for the two sides to practically implement the China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership action plan and steadily raise the level of cooperation.

The state councilor also urged both sides to make use of their complementary potential, properly work out the "China-Myanmar Economic and Trade Cooperation Program", and implement well major projects between the two sides.

He also emphasized the need to expand friendly exchanges in various fields, to jointly safeguard the stability of the China-Myanmar border regions, as well as to guarantee the good-neighborly relations between the two countries.

U Tin Aung Myint Oo said that for many years, Myanmar and China have shared mutual understanding and support, with the two countries' relations being continuously developed.

He agreed with Dai on further developing ties, saying Myanmar would unshakably endeavor for the development of Myanmar-China comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership.

The vice president also expressed Myanmar's wishes to maintain frequent exchanges and visits at high levels, and boost economic cooperation and trade so as to bring benefits for the two peoples.

Dai arrived in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday to attend the 4th Summit of the six-country Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation (GMS) which is to kick off Tuesday.
