BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- All Myanmar crew and boats participated in the joint patrols along the Mekong River had returned safely to the port of Wan Pung on Sunday night, China's Ministry of Public Security said Monday.
The joint patrols of China, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar have been going on "smoothly", the ministry said in a statement on its website, citing anonymous sources on board of the joint patrol vessels.
An earlier report run by the Bangkok Post said that three Myanmar soldiers were killed in a clash with a group of armed people on the Mekong River during the patrol, citing anonymous sources.
The four countries decided to launch joint police patrols in late October, weeks after two cargo ships were attacked on Oct. 5, resulting in the murder of 13 Chinese sailors.
