China plays key role in world food security

On Dec. 5, the Global South-South Development Exposition opened at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.

Qu Sixi, director of the Service Centers for International Exchanges under the Ministry of Agriculture of China and also the leader of the Chinese delegation, said that the multilateral agricultural South-South Cooperation within the Special Program for Food Security framework of the FAO has great significance for strengthening the cooperation among developing countries and safeguarding global food security.

China is one of the countries that first responded to and actively participated in the agricultural South-South Cooperation within the Special Program for Food Security framework of the FAO and also the country that sent out most agricultural experts and technicians.

It is said that by the end of November, 16 South-South Cooperation projects within the Special Program for Food Security framework of the FAO had been initiated and 865 agricultural experts and technicians had been sent to 21 countries in Africa, Asia, South Pacific, Caribbean Region and other regions. The projects and technicians are offering agricultural technology aids to the target countries and playing positive roles in strengthening their agricultural production capacities.
