Myanmar vice president meets Chinese sports delegation

NAY PYI TAW, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar Vice President Dr. Sai Mauk Kham met with visiting Chinese sports delegation, led by Liu Peng, director of State General Administration of Sports and President of Chinese Olympic Committee in Nay Pyi Taw Sunday.

The two sides vowed to further enhance exchange and cooperation in the two countries' sports sector.

Sai spoke highly of Myanmar-China relations, thanking China for its long-term support rendered to Myanmar.

Describing China as a great sports country, he expressed Myanmar's wishes to strengthen the exchange and cooperation with the Chinese side, hoping China would extend a helping hand to Myanmar for its development cause of sports and Myanmar's hosting of 2013 Southeast Asian Games.

At the meeting, Liu noted that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors. For the past over 60 years after the two countries established diplomatic relations, the two countries' friendly ties have developed and expanded.

He also expressed China's wishes to further the exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the sports sector as well as to further the understanding and friendship between the sports circles of the two countries and between the two peoples.

Present on the occasion were also Myanmar Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin and Sports Minister U Tint San.

After the meeting, Liu and U Tint San held talks and signed a memorandum of understanding on China-Myanmar sports exchange and cooperation.

The signing was followed by the presentation of sports facilities by the Chinese side to the Myanmar side.

The seven-member Chinese sports delegation arrived Yangon on Friday.
