SHENZHEN, Guangdong, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov on Thursday continued his China state visit in Shenzhen, an open coastal city and a leading special economic zone in the southern province of Guangdong.

During his meeting with Wang Yang, chief of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Berdymukhamedov said that he hopes to upgrade energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and China, noting that Turkmenistan is rich in petroleum and natural gas resources.

Turkmenistan is also ready to expand cooperation between the two countries in agriculture, construction, communication, outer space exploration and other fields, said the president.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, said that Berdymukhamedov's Shenzhen trip is a milestone for deepening economic and trade relations between Turkmenistan and Guangdong.

According to Wang, bilateral trade between Guangdong and Turkmenistan amounted to more than 127 million U.S. dollars in the first nine months of this year, an increase of 109 percent year-on-year.

Before the meeting, Berdymukhamedov and Wang attended a ceremony to celebrate the start of operation of a natural gas pipeline between Turkmenistan and Guangdong.
