Beijing, Nov.24 (People's Daily Online) -- China on Wednesday said it opposed unilateral and expanded sanctions against Iran days after several Western powers announced new measures against the Middle East country.

"China has always opposed unilateral sanctions against Iran and disapproved of those expanded sanctions," Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Weimin said at a daily press briefing yesterday in Beijing.

The United States, Britain and Canada on Monday announced new sanctions against Iran, in the wake of a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency that expressed concern over Tehran's controversial nuclear program.

"China maintains that imposing pressure and sanctions will not fundamentally resolve the Iran issue, but complicate and aggravate it, and stir up more confrontations, which will undermine regional peace and stability", said Liu.

This is another good example of the high-handedness of the US and its Allies in colluding to bully another country. Despite having failed to get the Security Council of the United Nations to impose additional sanctions on Iran, the US and some of its Allies unilaterally imposed the additional sanctions. Then what is the use of the United Nations? The additional sanctions will definitely hurt the people of Iran rather than the government more. Where is your conscience on human rights?Stop the stupid sanctions and return to the negotiation table. The world is watching.
