China urges objective evaluation of China-Africa co-op

BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said on Wednesday that China hopes the international community can make an objective and impartial evaluation of China-Africa cooperation.

Jiang made the remarks at a regular press briefing here.

A story published by the "Japanese Economic News" Tuesday alleged that Chinese companies' investment into Africa would not help the long-term development of the region, and may become a disputed topic during the national elections of some African countries.

In response, Jiang explained that the reasons behind the different views towards China-Africa cooperation lay in that some countries did not have a comprehensive and accurate understanding of China's policy towards Africa.

On the other hand, behavior of some companies might have been generalized as the way that all Chinese companies act, Jiang added.

"China will take the problems seriously and properly address them and the international community should also have an appropriate understanding of China-Africa cooperation," Jiang said.

Jiang noted that China has always adhered to the principle of sincere friendship, equality, effectiveness, mutual benefit and common development while cooperating with African countries.

China is also committed to developing mutually beneficial and win-win economic and trade relations with African countries, the spokeswoman said, adding that such cooperation has effectively promoted economic and social development in Africa, bringing tangible benefits to the African people and was highly praised by African countries.

Recently, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, African Development Bank and other institutions had released a report, which saw China-Africa cooperation developing in a positive way.

In the future, China will work together with African countries to jointly promote the healthy and stable development of China-Africa cooperation, Jiang added.

"In fact, China's cooperation with Africa has also raised the international community's concern and commitment to Africa, which is another benefit brought by the China-Africa cooperation to the African countries," Jiang said.
