PHNOM PENH, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- The China-ASEAN International Touring Assembly and China-ASEAN Journalist Rally reflected easier road connection and closer friendship ties between China and ASEAN, said Yang Min, vice mayor of Nanning Municipal Government on Saturday.

"Besides good relations between China and ASEAN on politics, economics, trade and investment, China is very close to ASEAN member countries and we can go back and forth by roads," he said on Saturday morning during the flag-off ceremony when the China-ASEAN car rally left Phnom Penh for next destination in Laos.

Some 34 racing cars from China, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Laos and Vietnam have participated in the race.

"The rally is to exchange sports and culture, tourism relations between China and ASEAN countries," he said.

Bun Sok, secretary of state for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, said during the flag-off ceremony that it was a great honor for Cambodia to welcome the pass-by car rally and the event would make closer friendship relations between Cambodia and China and other ASEAN countries.

He Leping, political counselor of Chinese Embassy to Cambodia, said this was the fifth time that China organized the rally and this year's event celebrated in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of China-ASEAN relations.

"We want the estimated 1.9 billion peoples of China and ASEAN to see each other as fraternal," he said.

The friendship car race has begun from China's Nanning on Sept. 20 for Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Vietnam in the total distance of 10,000 kilometers and is expected to return to Nanning on Oct. 12.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) group Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
