Croatia appreciates China's aherence to peaceful development

09:46, September 13, 2011

ZAGREB, Sept.12 (Xinhua) -- Croatian parliamentary speaker Luka Bebic said on Monday that Croatia highly appreciates China's adherence to peaceful development and its initiative of the Harmonious World idea.

China is playing an increasingly important role in international affairs and Croatia always pursues the one-China policy, Bebic said when meting with Xu Caihou, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission.

Bebic said that Croatia and China have carried out fruitful cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other fields and the armies of the two countries keep sound and stable relations.

Croatia is willing to work together with China to further boost the overall cooperative partnership between the two countries, Bebic said.

Xu said that the friendly relations between China and Croatia have been growing since the two countries established diplomatic ties 19 years ago.

The two countries have undertaken fruitful cooperation and exchanges in various fields after they established an overall cooperative partnership in 2005, especially after Chinese President Hu Jintao's historic visit to Croatia in 2009, Xu said.

Xu also said that the Chinese army valued its ties with the Croatian army and his current visit to the country is aimed at enhancing mutual understanding, deepening friendship and pushing ahead exchanges and cooperation between the two armies.

Xu arrived here late Sunday for a four-day official visit to Croatia.

On Monday, Xu also met with Croatian Defense Minister Davor Bozinovic. Xu said that China respects the Croatian people's choice of their own development road and the military tie is an important part of the relations between the two countries.

The Chinese army attaches great importance to its relations with the Croatian army and is willing to work together with the Croatian side to deepen the pragmatic military cooperation, so as to push the China-Croatia ties to a higher level.

Bozinovic said that Croatia highly appreciates China's peaceful diplomatic policies as well as the Chinese army's contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping missions and the escort operations in the Gulf of Aden.

He said that Croatia is willing to work together with China to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defense affairs to enhance the development of the ties between the two countries.
