Senior Chinese official visits Switzerland to discuss bilateral ties

GENEVA, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Wang Gang, a senior official of China's political advisory body, met with Swiss President Micheline Calmy-Rey and Federal Assembly leader Jean-Rene Germanier respectively on Friday to discuss bilateral ties.

Calmy-Rey said Switzerland attaches great importance to the relationship with China and hoped to further enhance the relations by promoting dialogue and cooperation.

Wang, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China and Switzerland are long-time good friends, the development of bilateral relations has brought real benefits to both countries and the their peoples.

China is willing to enhance the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, said Wang.

In his meeting with Germanier, Wang said the CPPCC will maintain good relations with the Federal Assembly of Switzerland to promote the bilateral relations between the two countries.

For his part, Germanier said Switzerland admires China's great success in economic and social development, and hoped to further enhance exchanges and cooperation.
