HANOI, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo said here Wednesday that China would like to advance all-round exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam to benefit the two countries.

Dai made the remarks while meeting with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Conveying a verbal message to the Vietnamese leader from Chinese President Hu Jintao, Dai said the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government attach great importance to the development of friendly cooperation with Vietnam.

Under the current circumstances, both sides should see to it that Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership makes constant progress, he said.

The two nations, Dai said, should give full play to such cooperation mechanism as the China-Vietnam steering committee on cooperation so as to promote bilateral exchanges and cooperation.

Nguyen said forming a friendly and cooperative relationship with China is a priority in Vietnam's long-term strategy.

Vietnam would like to work with China to further enhance mutual trust, step up all-round cooperation and properly handle disputes concerning the South China Sea, he said.

Dai added that China is willing to join Vietnam in implementing the consensus reached by leaders from both sides and deepening the strategic mutual trust.

He also said Vietnam and China should deal with the sensitive issues between the two sides in an appropriate manner and take concrete steps to maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea.
