Senior CPC official calls for closer media co-op with Japan, ROK

BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for closer contact among the media of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the comment when meeting with 30 media representatives from China, Japan and the ROK on Wednesday.

The representatives are in Beijing to attend a round-table meeting hosted by the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the CPC.

Cooperation between the three countries' mainstream media will benefit China-Japan-ROK relations and the economy of Northeast Asia, Liu said.

Liu, also head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said he hoped the media of the three countries could enhance cooperation in areas including news products, personnel exchanges and technology.

The representatives expressed the willingness to play a positive role in cementing friendship among the peoples of China, Japan and the ROK and promoting mutually beneficial cooperation between the three countries.
