The 65th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic of China

The People’s Republic of China will witness the 65th anniversary of its foundation in 2014. It will also be one year since the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China approved a decision on "major issues concerning comprehensively strengthening reform". The Chinese people will look forward to making their contributions to the process of fulfilling the Chinese dream

The 60th anniversary of the National People's Congress


The National People's Congress will witness its 60th anniversary in 2014. In these six decades the Chinese people have witnessed the change that has taken place from voting with beans to multi-candidate elections.

China's Constitution stipulates that all power in the People's Republic of China belongs to the people, and the organs through which the people exercise state power are the National People's Congress and the local people's congresses at different levels.

The 110th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s birth

2014 is the year of the 110th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping’s birth. “Emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts” captures the essence of Deng Xiaoping's philosophy. The Chinese people believe that as they have done in the past, Deng’s achievements and scientific theories will continue to change and influence China and the world at large. Deng is also regarded as the chief architect of China's reform, designed to improve the socialist system, bring its strengths into full play, and impel the drive towards modernization. At this primary stage of socialism, to accelerate and strengthen reform is the main task on which all political, economic and social activities must be focused.

The third round of the economic census in China

The third round of the economic census starts its household registration on Jan 1, 2014.
The program will gather information on nearly 10 million companies and units and 60 million private firms in China. The economic census is conducted on a local to national level to provide valuable data concerning revenues. Around 3 million enumerators will take part in the census.
The economic census is relevant to everyone in China - not only the policymaker, but also ordinary people who have concerns about living costs, employment, personal consumption, and investment.  
  
The 120th anniversary of Sino-Japanese War

2014 is the year of the 120th anniversary of Sino-Japanese War. In the spirit of taking history as a guide and looking into the future, China will defend historical justice and maintain the relations with Japan. However, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe opened old historical wounds by paying homage at the Yasukuni shrine in 2013.

In accordance with the decision approved at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, China will continue to follow a win-win strategy of opening up, and promote robust, sustainable and balanced growth of the global economy through increased cooperation.

Manned Sub Jiaolong to dive in India Ocean

In 2014, Jiaolong, China's first manned deep-sea submersible, is scheduled for a voyage in the Indian Ocean. With its carrier Xiangyanghong 09 due to set sail in November or December, the sub will carry out scientific research focusing on polymetallic sulfides in the southwest Indian Ocean, according to the State Oceanic Administration. Jiaolong makes China one of the five countries in the world with manned submersibles capable of descending to a depth of 6,000 meters.  

China to loosen its one-child policy

The government has pledged a major easing of one of the three-decades-old rules that restrict most couples to a single child. Over the past decade, the Chinese leadership has experimented with loosening the policy, including granting an exemption to couples where both parents are themselves only children. In 2014,in accordance with a key decision issued at the end of 2013, couples will be allowed to have two children if one of them is an only child.

China will implement this new policy while adhering to the basic state policy of family planning, in accordance with the decision on major issues concerning comprehensively strengthening reform which was approved at the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee held from Nov. 9 to 12 in Beijing. China’s family planning policy will be adjusted and improved step by step to promote the long-term balanced development of the population.

College entrance examination reform policies to be announced

Examination scores will no longer be the only standard for evaluating students in the future, with the education Ministry of Education planning to issue a series of reform policies on college entrance exams in the first half of 2014.
