Hong Kong's Development Bureau will provide full support in engaging the public on the proposed establishment of the Harborfront Authority, the city's Secretary for Development Paul Chan said Friday.
Chan told reporters after attending the Harborfront Commission's Symposium on Harborfront Development that the Victoria Harbor is the city's icon and an important public asset.
"The government is committed to providing an attractive and easily accessible harborfront for Hong Kong citizens' enjoyment," he said.
In his Policy Address earlier this year, the Chief Executive of Hong Kong C.Y. Leung said the city's government will take legislative work forward and provide the necessary financial support if the public supports the proposal of establishing the Harborfront Authority.
Initially, the exercise will collect public views on the authority's establishment, its responsibilities and structure. The second phase will gauge views on operational details.
