Hamburgers may cause diarrhea and food poisoning

Changsha city of Hunan has recently announced the food safety inspection result of the third quarter in 2012, with spicy chicken burgers of Apollo store of Changsha KFC Co., Ltd. being included in unqualified list. According to reports, Changsha Municipal Bureau of Health sampled KFC spicy chicken burgers produced on Aug, 29 and found the content of coliform organisms reached 230MPN/100g, nearly seven times higher than the relevant standard of no more than 30MPN/100g.

Instead of making a re-inspection to the questioned products and check the kitchen of the store, KFC complained the wrong inspection standard, saying that hamburgers are not breads so they should not be inspected by the standard of breads and cakes, and required the health bureau reconsidering.

Although the local health bureau recalled the unqualified list, the person in charge said that the safety of hamburgers is currently hard to be determined because China has not yet had a technical capacity to form such testing standard.

According to sources, food with excessive coliforms organisms easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort and diarrhea, and eating excessive coliforms organisms may lead to intestinal infectious disease or food poisoning.
