TAIYUAN, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed in a construction site collapse on Wednesday in northwest China's Shanxi Province, local authorities said Thursday.

The accident occurred around 6:50 p.m. at a Xinfei Group construction site in the village of Maojiazhuang in Liulin County, sources with the county's press office said.

All three workers died after they were sent to a local hospital, the sources said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.

It was the country's third scaffolding collapse within a week.

On Tuesday, a scaffolding collapse killed five people at a construction site in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province.

On Sunday, a similar collapse in Fuzhou, capital of southeast China's Fujian Province, left two dead and two others injured.
