19 killed after construction lift crashes in C. China

WUHAN, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A lift crashed from the 30th floor of an apartment building under construction in central China's Hubei Province Thursday, killing all 19 people aboard, local authorities said.

The accident occurred at around 1:26 p.m. in a community that is being built in the provincial capital of Wuhan, a city government spokesman said.

The victims were mostly construction workers, the spokesman said.

Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.
