Moldy burger found in McDonald's restaurant in Zhengzhou

A Chinese citizen surnamed Wang found a moldy hamburger at a McDonald's restaurant in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province on Aug. 25. He tried to seek an explanation from the restaurant, but was only offered a refund and several money-off coupons as compensation due to the absence of its manager. It was not until the arrival of sanitation inspectors that the restaurant admitted the burger's bun was moldy, and apologized for it. Local sanitation authorities will impose penalties on the restaurant according to the law.

Many specks of mold found on McDonald's burger

The reporter met Wang on the afternoon of Aug. 25, who had with him a Spicy Chicken Fillet Burger. Half of the burger's upper bun was gone, and there were clearly six green specks of mold each at about the size of a sesame seed on the remaining half.

Wang said that he and his friend arrived at the restaurant at 1 p.m., and each ordered a hamburger set to chat over lunch. However, Wang found that the bun was moldy after a small bite of his burger. He immediately called over a waiter. "The waiter kept saying ‘sorry'," and quickly seized away a large part of the moldy bun. It made me so angry because if he took the entire moldy bun away, I would have no evidence," Wang said.
