On July 16, 2012, 31 years after the AIDS was found, the first AIDS prevention medicine used on non-infected people was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and put on the market. In the 19th World AIDS Conference which will end 10 days later, the first cured AIDS patient showed, giving people some hope of controlling the AIDS.

On Aug. 21, the reporter learned from the Beijing You An Hospital that the phase clinical test of the AIDS vaccine, which is a major special scientific project of China, officially already started in last week in this hospital and the 31 test subjects of the first batch have received the first injection.

Effectiveness of the AIDS prevention vaccine will be tested

Compared to extremely expensive AIDS treatment medicines, the AIDS prevention vaccine, of which a person needs only a few injections, is much more affordable and effective.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Vaccine and Serum Institute have jointly developed the AIDS vaccine with full independent intellectual property rights by using a new method. The phase clinical test of the vaccine was completed in the “11th Five-Year Plan” and the results show that it is safe, has a high immunogenicity and can make the test subjects generate anti-HIV body fluid and have the cell immune reaction. The phase clinical test will further test its immunogenicity (effectiveness). It is the first clinical test of an AIDS vaccine made from the replicated living virus vector in the world. Currently, 31 people have received the first injection.
