However, people's trusts on these websites are decreasing.

According to a survey, over 50 percent of interviewees believe that dating websites have turned into a hotbed for cheaters to defraud money in various ways. A lawyer in Henan Cheng Qiaomei, who has been long kept a close eye on the problems of dating websites, said that defrauding money from people on dating websites is a new criminal method and people should not ignore it.

Cheng: If a fake ID or fake action involves the property and the money defaulted reaches China's standard for a case of the crime of fraud, it will be regarded as a crime of fraud.

Facing members' economic losses, dating websites tend to protect themselves and avoid their responsibilities. They usually publish such a "legal statement:" "Users should carry out relevant friend-making actions by using their own independent judgments and take all possible consequences independently. Our website does not bear any legal liability." Morally, this kind of irresponsibility should be blamed, but legally, China's supervision and administration on dating websites are still insufficient, Cheng said.

Cheng: The dating websites that we currently use offer only simple personal information and some of them do not require real ID information for the registration. Therefore, although these websites bear the liability of supervision, they are not involved in the crime of fraud.
