Lock & Lock responds to substandard products

(People's Daily Online)

14:03, July 30, 2012

Lock & Lock, a major Korean plastics company, has issued a statement in response to the recent public destruction of a batch of possibly unsafe infants' drinking cups from South Korea, including Lock & Lock products, in Yantai, Shandong province.

According to the statement, the drinking cups seized and destroyed in Yantai were imported from South Korea without the knowledge of Lock & Lock, and only a small proportion of the cups under many different brand names were produced by the company. Yantai authorities said the drinking cups that failed inspection were not Lock & Lock products, but the entire batch was still destroyed for safety reasons.

Lock & Lock also released a report on a test of its products conducted in May, which showed that its products’ evaporation residues contained only 7 micrograms of n-hexane per liter, far below the Chinese regulatory limit of 30 micrograms per liter.

The company said that all of its products are produced in accordance with national standards and regulations, and must have passed inspection and quarantine before entering the Chinese market, so Chinese consumers do not need to worry about the safety or quality of its products.
