Anheuser-Busch InBev JV fined for unlicensed production

Anheuser-Busch InBev (Hunan) Beer Company has been fined 1.2 million yuan for unlicensed production

According to a report by the China Quality Daily, the Quality Supervision Bureau of Anhua County of Hunan Province received a tip-off on Jan. 13 of 2012, saying that many shopping centers and super markets of the county sold the Harbin Chill Beer without the production license.

After an investigation, officials of the bureau found that the production license of the Anheuser-Busch InBev (Hunan) Beer Company expired on July 7, 2011 and the company did not prolong it. The company did not obtain its new production license until Nov. 3, 2011, and for the period without the license, the company's production continued.

The Food Production Supervision Office under the Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision of Hunan Province (AQTSHP) had repeatedly ordered the company to carry out improvements and even suspend its production due to a series of problems of the company. For example, the packaging workshop of the company was not isolated, did not have fly-killer lamps, and did not have an individual washroom at its entrance.

According to sources, the company expressed in the middle of August of 2011 to the AQTSHP that it had completed some improvement and hoped to obtain the production license before the peak season of beer selling. Obviously, the company completely knew at that time that it was carrying out unlicensed production.

According to China Quality Inspection Association, Anheuser-Busch InBev (Hunan) Beer Company continued its production and had a total beer sales volume of more than 100 million yuan between July 7, 2011 and Nov. 3, 2011 when it did not have a valid production license for this period. Then, the AQTSHP, according to its total beer sales volume of the period without the production license, issued a punishment letter, and the company was fined 1.2 million yuan.<html>
