11:13, July 14, 2012

GUIYANG, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Eight people have been confirmed dead following rainstorm-triggered landslides that occurred Friday in the city of Liupanshui in southwest China's Guizhou Province, the city government said.

Three landslides occurred Friday morning in Liupanshui, which was battered by heavy downpours, according to the city government.

Rescuers had recovered five bodies in the nearby village of Tianba as of 3:30 p.m.

Another three bodies were discovered Friday morning near the Maojiahe hydropower station in Shuicheng county.

Over the last three days, rainstorms have battered several parts of Guizhou, killing one person and affecting 200,000 others.

The storms swept across 15 counties and cities, causing floods and landslides.

The local meteorological station said another round of heavy rains is expected to hit the province Friday and last until Tuesday.
