After learning that Mead Johnson and other foreign brands may have illegally added vanillin to their infant formula products, the Hunan Provincial Credit Construction and Promotion Association commissioned the Hunan Brands Reputation Investigation Centre to conduct a survey. The center randomly bought some Stage 1 infant formula made by Mead Johnson, Abbott Laboratories, Wyeth, and some other foreign companies at various supermarkets in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan province, and then sent them to the Hunan Agricultural University's Nutrition and Food Safety Testing Center for inspection.

The testing center found that Stage 1 infant formula made by Mead Johnson, Abbott Laboratories, and Wyeth contained vanillin, which could harm babies' liver and kidneys if too much was consumed. According to China's Standards for the Use of Food Additives (GB2760-2011), Stage 1 formula designed for infants up to six months old must not contain any flavorings.

Is it established where these products are made? I"m writing from the USA and assumed that all those name brands you mentioned are produced in China and then possibly packaged in the USA.I would be curious to see a follow up on this topic.
