According to the official micro-blogs of the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality and Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision on July 10, the Shanghai Branch of the Robust (Guangdong) Drinking Water Co., Ltd. was detected containing excessive amounts of pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The problem was found during a special sampling inspection conducted by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision on bottled and barreled drinking water production companies in Shanghai.

The items examined in the inspection included the lead, total arsenic, nitrite, free chlorine, cyanide, coliform bacteria, mold and many other indicators. Robust Company is the only unqualified among 82 batches of surveyed products. The company was detected that the amount of pseudomonas aeruginosa in 18.9 liters of barreled natural drinking mineral water has exceeded the prescribed limit.

Reporter saw on the official website of Robust Company that there are a total of four kinds of barreled water products and the company claimed on the website that its natural drinking mineral water "comes from natural water sources in the deep ground and contains a variety of natural minerals. It can be seen in some markets."

The reporter dialed the customer service hotline of the company and was told that natural drinking mineral water has been stopped sales on the market in February this year. Up until now, Robust Company did not make a clear attitude about how to deal with the unqualified products on the market.

The reporter also learned that at present, the barreled water on the market of Shanghai only includes pure water and mineral water and there is not the so-called "natural mineral water."

According to sources, pseudomonas aeruginosa is a bacterium surviving in soil, water, air and the skin, respiratory and intestinal tracts of normal people. The expert of Center for Disease Control of China said that this bacterium is a kind of conditional pathogen and can cause disease only in certain conditions. The patients suffering from severe burns, metabolic disease, blood disease and cancer and patients after an operation or treatment are more likely to be infected by this bacterium because they have weak resistance. If drinking too much water with excessive bacteria, people may suffer from diarrhea.
